Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) Guide — Lithuania

How to Submit a TRP Application
Applications are submitted electronically through the MIGRIS system at migracija.lt. Log in using your email or through the electronic government gateway (VIISP). Upload all required documents as scanned copies.

Required Documents
Valid travel document (passport)
Must be valid for the duration of your intended stay. If your passport expires sooner, the TRP will be issued for a shorter period.
Health insurance
Must cover emergency medical care and repatriation costs. Minimum coverage: €6,000. Must be valid for the entire stay.
Proof of sufficient funds
Bank statement, employment contract, or written support commitment. Minimum: 1 MMS (minimum monthly salary) per month. Students and minors: 0.5 MMS.
Criminal record certificate
Must be issued no earlier than 6 months before application. Exception: if you hold a valid Lithuanian national visa, a certificate from 1 month before visa issuance is accepted. Can be in English or translated by a certified translator.
Proof of accommodation
Minimum 7 sq meters per adult (4 sq m for students). Provide: notarized landlord consent, rental contract, or property ownership documents.
Declaration of place of residence
Must be declared at the Migration Department (when collecting permit) or at the municipal office within 1 month of document issuance.
Criminal Record Certificate Details
Legalization / Apostille
Apostille or legalization is required, EXCEPT for certificates from: Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova, or foreign diplomatic/consular missions in Lithuania.
Translation requirements
Can be submitted in English. If not in English and shows conviction details, must be translated into Lithuanian by a certified translator.
Work-Based TRP
Employer mediation letter required
Your employer must submit an intermediary (mediation) letter through MIGRIS first. The letter is valid for 5 months and must include employer authorization and workplace details.
You can only work for the employer specified in your TRP. Changing employers requires departmental approval and is only possible after at least 6 months of employment.
To change employer or job: apply through MIGRIS at least 6 months after permit issuance.
Study-Based TRP
Students holding a study-based TRP have no work hour limitations. After graduation, a permit can be issued allowing job search and self-employment.
Business-Based TRP
Company head (director)
Must provide company registration documents, proof of business activity, and appointment as company head.
Shareholder
Must hold a qualifying share in a Lithuanian company and provide proof of investment and business activity.
Family Reunification
Family members can join a TRP holder under these conditions:
• Primary TRP holder must have resided in Lithuania for at least 2 years
• Must hold a permit valid for 1 year or more
• Must have prospects for obtaining permanent residence
Exception: EU Blue Card holders can sponsor family after just 1 year, without the 2-year residency requirement.
Decision Timelines
Standard processing: up to 4 months
Expedited processing: up to 2 months
National visa decision: 15 calendar days (extendable to 45 days for additional verification)
