Yes/no questions and key question words
Ask simple questions and start real information exchange
Ask short yes/no and info questions in practical situations with calm, usable Lithuanian.
You unlock the first question toolkit: “Ar…?”, “Kas?”, “Kur?”, “Kada?”, “Kaip?”, “Kiek?”, and “Kodėl?”.

Teacher explanation
Use a question word when one piece of information is missing. Use “ar” when you only need a yes or no.
At this level, short questions sound stronger than long risky ones. “Kur yra stotis?” or “Kiek kainuoja?” is already useful Lithuanian.
Key language
Use ar when you want a yes/no answer.

Two ways to ask
Use “ar + statement” for a yes/no question. Use a question word like kas, kur, kada, kaip, kiek, or kodėl when you need one specific piece of information.

Imagine you are in a new city in Lithuania. Write five short questions you may need today.
- •Write one yes/no question with 'Ar...?'
- •Write one question with 'Kur...?'
- •Write one question with 'Kada...?' or 'Kiek...?'
Quick practice
Learner notes
- • Keep ar short and clear.
- • Do not blur kiek into one fast sound.
- • English often changes word order for questions, but Lithuanian can simply use ar + statement.
- • If you freeze, start with one question word: Kur? Kada? Kiek? Short questions still work.
